V-commerce, also called voice commerce, is a form of ecommerce where customers buy products or services using voice commands through smart speakers and voice assistants such as Amazon Alexa, Google Assistant, or Apple Siri. Instead of typing or clicking, shoppers speak naturally to search for items, place orders, track shipments, or reorder products.
V-commerce is a subset of conversational commerce, using voice as the interface rather than chat or messaging.
V-commerce is reshaping how shoppers move from intent to purchase. As smart speaker adoption grows and voice search gets more accurate, brands that show up in voice results earn frictionless reorder and replenishment moments that competitors miss. It sits alongside mobile commerce and traditional desktop ecommerce as another channel where DTC and subscription brands need a presence.
For subscription brands specifically, voice is uniquely suited to recurring purchases. A customer who already buys a product monthly can re-trigger that purchase by saying “reorder my coffee,” with no app, no checkout, and no manual payment step.
Voice commerce relies on natural language processing (NLP) and AI-powered voice assistants. A typical transaction follows this flow:
To show up in voice results, brands need to optimize product content for natural-language queries. Short, conversational answers tend to outperform keyword-stuffed copy.
A customer says, “Alexa, reorder my dog food,” and Alexa confirms and places the order using their saved Amazon preferences and default payment method. The transaction completes in seconds without opening an app or visiting a website. That’s v-commerce in action.
If you run a subscription or replenishment business, optimize your product pages for voice search and integrate with platforms that support voice-enabled reordering. Recurring buyers are the customer segment most likely to convert through voice.
